Alan Greenspan said there was
only a 1 percent probability that all the factors would
converge to create the economic collapse we currently confront.
Many others, though, have been warning about it for a while. Regardless,
it’s here, and despite the early hopes that it wouldn’t spread south of
the border, it has. Now the question is how governments and citizens alike
can protect the social and economic gains that preceded the crisis and
rebuild both domestic and international economies.

restoring credit and investment; cushioning the effect of unemployment and
a decline in remittances; expanding the safety net for the most vulnerable;
and avoiding a political backlash that could overturn sound
macroeconomic policies. Here is AQ’s graphic summary of
how to get back on the path to prosperity.
